Inaugural Event was Sunday May 19th 2024
What we did
We launched the Inaugural High School Nudgeathon in the United States. Where teams of high school students from across the United States joined us for a one-day Nudgeathon!
Teams of up to 6 dove into solving substance abuse by using behavioral science principles to create solutions. We had lectures from two leading behavioral science professors and an expert in teenage substance abuse. After creating their solutions the high schools presented to a panel of judges at the fore front of the fight against teen substance abuse.
The competition took place on May 19th from 10:00am-5:30pm pst at Avant Space. There were over 30 high schools participants in total!

What teams did
After receiving a lesson on behavioral science, the teams created their best solutions to help stop and prevent marijuana and/or vaping use among adolescents. They will use "nudge" theory to address a question provided by our sponsors or one of their own choosing.
Winning Ideas
1st Place - Game It: Tula Peltz, Tessa Ulvestad, And Dahlia Tymoff
Create a myth-busting game for kids to play on their phones while in the bathroom. After learning and playing the game, students' names are entered into a lottery to win cash prizes.
2nd Place - Making Bathrooms a Sh*tty Place: Sol Grossman, Canyon Sallady, Owen Penrose, Caeden Gardner, Alexander Spallas
Bathrooms at schools are the main places where students congregate and smoke. So, Making Bathrooms a Sh*tty Place redesigned the concept to make them less comfortable to stand in and more comfortable to do one's business.
3rd Place - The Random Fear: Emma Gardner, Sonia Manshouri, and Isabelle Brennan
Each month, randomly select a few students to be drug tested. The fear of being drug tested will lead to kids using less, provide a reason to not partake when offered, and reintroduce the fear factor associated with drugs.
